Melbourne indie-rock group The Velvet Club are making their mark for serving up bright and jangly indie rock tunes. Their latest track ‘Everything’s Changing’ embodies the kind of infallible easy listening Aussie musicians craft so well, providing a relaxed beachy soundtrack to help you escape the upcoming winter.

As the modern surf rock trend continues to escalate, bands like The Velvet Club are taking up the call to action. Everything’s Changing has that blissful summery road trip vibe that is showered with warmth and evokes an imaginary salty ocean breeze. Rhythmically focused, the bright guitars elevate this track from tales of uncertainty to a joyful energy full of possibilities. It inspires an upheaval from old habits that are getting stale, laughing in the face of stagnancy.

Recorded in late February of 2020, COVID was just creeping around the corner. The snippet of chatter at the beginning of the track is a sample picked up by a mic when the band tuned into a news report to find out the fate of their recording session. With an almost prophetic approach, the song has taken on new meaning and really captured the sense of uncertainty that plagued us all during last year’s lockdowns.

The main theme of ‘Everything’s Changing’ is something I think a lot of people can relate to. The feeling of being stuck and not knowing what you want to do next. Whether you’re stuck in a job that isn’t what you want to be doing or a relationship or whatever it is. The song is about realising you have to do what makes you happy and try to make your dreams reality!
