Join Ali Barter, Montaigne, Ainslie Wills and Nadeah as they kick off the first EP from So Frenchy So Chic’s YÉ-YÉ 2.0. Serenading us in French and embodying a modern twist on the classic ’60s yé-yé sound, these four artists have brought their own magic to well-known tracks to reignite your inner French passions.

Yé-Yé, a pop culture movement stemming from the ’60s, was famous for celebrating nonchalance and optimism. Think of the likes of Serge Gainsbourg, Françoise Hardy & Bridgette Bardot, oozing all things decadence, parties, sweetness and seduction. It’s the je ne sais quoi of how to be French. It’s about appreciating good wine, good music and good company with equal doses of vigorous passion and casual understatement.

So Frenchy So Chic have released EP 1 of YÉ-YÉ 2.0 featuring the incredible Ali Barter, Montaigne, Nadeah and Ainslie Wills.

Ainslie Wills takes on Françoise Hardy‘s ‘Mon Amie La Rose’ (My Friend The Rose), showcasing her spellbinding depth and delicacy. Montaigne lends her enigmatic imagination to Marie Laforêt‘s ‘A Demain Ma Darling’ (See You Tomorrow My Darling), otherwise known as ‘The Sha La La Song‘ by Marianne Faithful.

Ali Barter masterfully creates her rendition of ‘Un Jeune Homme Bien’ (A Good Young Man by Petula Clark), otherwise made famous by The Kinks as ‘A Well-Respected Man’. Seeing out EP 1 is Nadeah‘s edgy, bass-laden rendition of ‘Ces Bottes Sont Faites Pour Marche’ (These Boots Are Made For Walking) by Eileen and otherwise made famous by Nancy Sinantra.

Alongside Montaigne‘s existing grasp of the French language, the other artists were led by Melbourne-born and Paris-raised Nadeah to help harness pronunciation during the recording process. Embodying a sense of modern-day Parisian chic, this first EP uses the heady magic of music to create a dreamy sense of European joy.

The So Frenchy So Chic Festival will be back in 2022, with some of the featured artists appearing to perform live to Francophiles and music fans alike. Stay tuned for the official line up coming soon, and follow the links below for ticket details.
